BIIAB Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering

It is a legal requirement that anyone who handles food for others (either paid or voluntary) must undertake food safety training.
This course is predominantly aimed at those in the workplace who participate in catering – preparing, cooking and serving food to others. Those who work in non-catering sectors such as care (child or residential), retail or transport will also benefit from this course if they handle food as part of their duties.

Summary

This nationally recognised qualification will provide learners with the knowledge they need to work safely and hygienically with food and to ensure that training requirements have been met, and can be evidenced through an approved qualification certificate.

The qualification covers the following key topics:

  • Safe handling of food
  • Bacteria growth and the affect on food
  • Temperature control (chilling and cooking of food)
  • Preparing, cooking, serving and storing food safely
  • Contamination control
  • Personal hygiene
  • Cleaning
  • Pest control
  • Application and monitoring of good food safety procedures

E-Assessment

The workbook sent to you via email at the time of booking, is written in an easy-to-follow method and contains all the information needed to pass the exam.

    • You study with the workbooks at your own pace and schedule. Your examination can coincide with the end of your planned study time.
    • Examinations can take place Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm.
    • You can book your examination session as little as five working days in advance of the day you wish to sit – subject to availability.
    • Greater choice and flexibility of examination centre – there are more than 80 centres throughout the UK.
    • Speed of results – you are given your result as you leave the examination centre.
    • User friendly ‘point and click’ system, with a practice session available to familiarise you with the technology before you embark upon the examination.

Assessment

There is a short multiple choice question paper to test the knowledge of the person taking the exam.

    You are allowed to book your exam 8 weeks in advance. The dates will move daily depending on the current date.

    COVID 19 Guidance

    On arrival at the exam centre, please ensure you bring a face mask to the centre. You are required to wear a face-covering on entry, exam admittance and on exiting the building; you may remove it during your exam.

    Please arrive alone. There is no place for any waiting persons in the exam centre. Non-exam candidates will not be allowed to enter the building.

    On arrival at the centre, please let the centre know that you have arrived and state your name along with the exam that you are taking. They will call you into the building when they are ready to admit you.

    Sanitising Hand Gel is provided, and it is compulsory to use it when entering the office.

    Exam candidates must present valid Photographic Identification (Passport or Driving licence). Please leave this document on the admittance desk for inspection as instructed by the invigilator. They will not touch the identification, so please ensure all details are visible. Candidates who do not present their identification will NOT be able to sit the exam.

    All computer-based examinations are operated on a timed system and all instructions relating to a specific exam is made available online before the candidate commences their exam. Pitman Training has no control over the testing systems or specific examination instructions.

    All computer equipment is sanitised before and after each examination.

    In the interest of health and safety guidelines, the candidates will be assigned to test areas at distances of two metres for social-distancing purposes where practical.

    Each individual centre will have their own rules once inside the building, you MUST comply to their requests. Failure to do so will result in being refused entry into the examination room.
